CordigeneaTM
{mosimage}Cordigenea - the innovative service of the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Company Biogenea-Cellgenea Ltd - focuses on the isolation of the Wharton's Jelly mesenchymal cells, for cryopreservation and the possible future use, after ex-vivo cell expansion using the super automated bioreactors of Regenetech and the technology obtained from NASA. The procedure is simple, is carried out at the end of the delivery from specialized personnel and it is completely painless and hazard-free both for the neonatal and the mother. The procedure consists of the following steps: Wharton's Jelly Collection Wharton's Jelly is the tissue surrounding the two arteries and the vein of the cord. The cord collection is carried out by a medical doctor during the delivery. The length of the collected tissue must be 5-7 cm and is transferred to the laboratories of Biogenea - Cellgenea Ltd. in a special delivering kit. Sterile processing and isolation of progenitor mesenchymal cells from the Wharton's Jelly Cord tissue samples are being processed immediately upon receipt. The procedure protocol has been used in international research trials and has been validated after many tests. This procedure is carried out under absolute sterile conditions in the validated cleanrooms of Cellgenea. Quality control Cellgenea offers safe and secure services of high quality. The concentration and viability of the cells are calculated using flow cytometry (Partec FloMax®, Partec). Microbiological control Cell cultures from Wharton's Jelly are being tested for the presence of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria using the automated blood culture analyzer BacT/ALERT, BioMérieux. In case of a positive sample, germ identification is being performed. Ex vivo cell expansion {mosimage} The final goal of the processing of Wharton's Jelly is the expansion of the initial mesenchymal cells. These cells are ex vivo expanded with the help of the modern bioreactors. Our company obtained these bioreactors from Regenetech together with NASA know how.
Cryopreservation and sample release Cellgenea has the appropriate technology and all the equipment for the cryopreservation of progenitor cells. The sample cryopreservation is performed gradually with automated rate freezers using liquid nitrogen and the samples are finally stored in liquid nitrogen tanks for more than 20 years. Each sample has a unique barcode for better traceability. In case of future use the sample is being released, after a written application of the donor, as well as the hospital or the clinic declaring that the autologous progenitor cells are needed as a supporting therapy. In such a case, the sample is being properly thawn and administered. Therapeutic application of the progenitor mesenchymal cells from the Wharton's Jelly The progenitor mesenchymal cells from Wharton's Jelly are intented exclusively for autologous use. These cells can be used potentially for the treatment of many diseases such as the Parkinson's disease, the myocardial damages, the renal regeneration, and for the regeneration of many tissues and organs. Clinical trials The progenitor mesenchymal cells may be used in the future to regenerate various tissues. For the time being, the progenitor mesenchymal cells, due to their low level of immunological response can be used during the transplantation procedure for the avoidance of the graft versus host disease (GVHD). |
